In the wee early morning hours Thursday February 05, 2009, K feels her first painful contraction. It is the middle of the night, and she is convinced "the time has come". She goes back to sleep a little, but not much.
N sleeps peacefully, completely unaware of what is about to happen. He had been up late working on a project for work. In the morning N gets coffee and K tells him what is happening. They decide that they have to wait. N goes in to work to tries to finish his work before the big event. He rushes off and works hard.
K and her mom stay home, and watch the contractions ripple through her.
K calls N and says "get home by 11am" we are going to the Hospital!
N quickly finishes up and zooms home, picks up everyone and off they go! Chewy gets picked up by Sheila the amazing dog walker, and is told to keep him for a few days!
Off we go!
Here we see K and her mom "Oka-san" enjoying the first moments of the wait. Soon this happy scene would change, and K would be racked by the contractions and unable to speak during them.
We wait what seems like a long time, and then we get prepped. K gives birth and we get a short introduction to each other before we have to separate! K goes into the recovery room and Wee Ren goes to get his first ever check up! N gets to go visit and says helloooo!
Literally just minutes old and we are both just out of our minds. The nice staff lets me in the nursery and I get to take some pictures and just look at the little guy. He's quiet and calm and assumes what will be his favorite sleeping position:
The nice people in the nursery who took care of our little boy, weighed and measured and cleaned up!
K gets to see little Ren and hold him for the first time!
Oh what a heartbreak is the first kiss!
Tina! The wonderful happy nurse who helped K in the recovery room. She was just terrific. You can tell by her picture!
A little trip to the hospital and we come back with a complete stranger!
Here's the wee one fresh into the world, in a rare eye-open shot!
He's enjoying his trip around the hospital floor in the bassinet!
Our little boy all covered in animal skins getting ready for his trip into the great unknown. Can you find him in there?
Somehow all of the photos are of the baby and not much of the parents! I guess we were not feeling very photogenic at the time. The happy family:
